Porcelain Veneers: What to Know Before You Commit
Dr. Ali Al-Douri, DDS
Reform Dentistry · Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania, VA

Porcelain veneers are one of the most powerful cosmetic dentistry tools available — ultra-thin shells of ceramic bonded to the front of your teeth to change their color, shape, size, or length. When done well, they look completely natural. But they're also irreversible, which means the decision deserves real thought.
What veneers can fix: - Stained or discolored teeth that don't respond to whitening - Chipped or cracked enamel - Gaps between teeth - Slightly misaligned or uneven teeth - Worn-down teeth
What veneers cannot fix: Veneers are not a substitute for orthodontic treatment if you have significant misalignment. They also won't help with bruxism (teeth grinding) — and grinding can crack veneers quickly.
The preparation process: To bond veneers, a small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth surface. This is permanent — once enamel is removed, it cannot grow back. This is why we take the consultation phase very seriously at Reform Dentistry.
How long do they last? With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10–20 years. Avoid biting your nails, chewing ice, or using your teeth as tools.
The Reform Dentistry approach: Dr. Al-Douri takes an artistic approach to veneer design — we use digital planning to preview your results before any preparation begins. You'll know exactly what your smile will look like before we start.
